As the Senior Manager - Credit Solutions, your superior knowledge of risk mitigation and Basel risk rating concepts within international jurisdictions (including emerging markets) will be leveraged to shape the newly created Credit Solutions Unit within Global Transaction Banking (GTB).
You have demonstrated the ability to respond to change and ambiguity with good judgment and flexibility ensuring sound business outcomes. Your track record of strong business relationships and coaching skills will enable you to share your passion and expertise, further developing the credit competencies of the team to achieve business results. Using your in-depth knowledge of credit, regulatory compliance, associated documentation and operational experience you enhance the quality and efficiency of this new unit. It is anticipated the Unit’s output will have a high profile with senior management across multiple business lines.
The global nature of the business line requires you possess strong interest in international issues, including an awareness of global trade flows and business trends (e.g. economic, technological, social, legal, regulatory and political) which could impact the financial viability of clients within the Department’s global footprint. The wide variety of markets, jurisdictions, and cultural environments covered adds a further level of complexity to the financial analysis and accounting knowledge required.
Key Accountabilities for this role:
In partnership with the Relationship Managers for the Financial Institution portfolio, the Senior Manager - Credit Solutions is responsible for contributing to the profitable development of the Financial Institution portfolio through the final production of high quality credit applications, involving appropriate structuring, risk mitigation, and recommendations on total exposures / aggregation and pricing.
1. Analyzing, structuring, writing or supervising, reviewing, presenting and recommending of credit proposals (including risk mitigation and Borrower / Facility risk rating) in partnership with the relationship management teams.
2. Recommending alternative terms, conditions and structures and monitoring pricing to ensure a viable proposal.
3. Enhancing the accurate, effective, and timely communication of credit requests and authorized terms and conditions.
4. Acting as the primary contact, providing support to the Financial Institutions Relationship Managers, other business line partners, global Representative Offices and Scotiabank subsidiaries with respect to credit applications/Basel risk rating procedures and database input queries. Attending client meetings as required.
5. Remaining aware of relevant financial, legal, political, technological, and industry information in the countries where the department conducts business, with a focus on the more complex countries.
6. Ensuring the ongoing quality and regulatory compliance of the assigned credit portfolio through control, monitoring and administration of specific conditions and reporting requirements (including AML/ATF, Basel II etc) .
QUALIFICATIONS:
MBA or BA (International Business, Economics, or similar) and 5+ years (or equivalent combination) directly related experience along with the following skill set:
* Superior credit, risk assessment, and structuring skills (previous banking or credit solutions exposure would be an asset)
* Superior accounting and financial analysis skills
* In-depth knowledge of the lending policies, practices and procedures preferably in large financial institutions
* Highly organized, analytical, and logical
* Strong communication skills, both written and oral
* Active listening skills with a broad variety of international stakeholders.
* Good coaching and negotiating skills
* Ability to read/write in another language (Spanish, Russian, etc.) would be an asset.
* Strong knowledge of (or aptitude to learn quickly about) financial institutions credit and risk analysis
* Strong knowledge of (or aptitude to learn quickly about) trade finance, financial institutions, treasury, and capital markets products would be an asset.
* CITP Designation an Asset
