NEW: TCS Network Path to the CITP
Canadian Trade Commissioners Gain Advanced Standing towards Canada's Top International Trade DesignationCertified International Trade Professional (CITP)
In February 2011, FITT's Certification and Accreditation Committee (CAC) approved an equivalency recognition program proposed by the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade (DFAIT), creating the Trade Commissioner Service (TCS) Network's Path to the CITP designation.
Through FITT's Prior Learning Assessment and Recognition (PLAR) process, Trade Commissioners with the recognized combination of education and experience can be granted up to four credits toward the completion of the FITTskills programthe educational requirement for the CITP designation. The four courses are: Global Business Environment, International Marketing, International Market Entry Strategies, and International Trade Research.
Trade Commissioners that hold the CITP designation are bringing a new level of excellence to the profession of international business and commerce; possessing the necessary skills and experience that today's businesses are seeking. The leadership in putting forward the TCS Network Path to the CITP Designation demonstrates the commitment of the entire Trade Commissioner Service to provide exemplary service to the Canadian business community as embodied by the CITP.
This year the Montreal Regional Office, kicked off the program by supporting FITTskills training for 16 trade commissioners. Eleven of these individuals went on to achieve their CITP designation and were acknowledged for their accomplishment on stage at FITT's annual Awards Ceremony hosted as part of FITT's 14th National Conference in Gatineau, Quebec.
For more information on the Trade Commissioner Service Network's Path to the CITP, please contact Celeste Burnie, Manager, Education & Certification, FITT.
