Pilot Training Session, May 19, Guelph, ON

Agriculture Going Global – International Agricultural Marketing Resource Development

 

Invitation to participate in a Pilot Training Session, May 19, 2011, Guelph, Ontario  

 

The Canadian Agricultural Human Resource Council (CAHRC) is currently working with the Forum for International Trade Training (FITT) in the development of customized learning resources that will provide primary agriculture producers with information that is current, that can be applied immediately and that provides hands-on knowledge and skills to pursue opportunities in international markets.  

 

As part of the project, CAHRC will be holding regional pilot training sessions to gather feedback on learning resources from producers interested in entering international markets. CAHRC would like to invite you to attend a three (3) hour pilot training session on Getting Your Product to Market where participants will learn about the following:

                                                     

§       Introduction: Overview to planning the steps necessary to get the product from concept to delivery to the client.

§       Mapping Your Logistical Steps: Identifying the steps necessary to transport goods to the buyer including buyer requirements and packaging.

§       Managing Procurement and Sourcing: Finding the foreign buyer and identifying his/her needs and finding the team to help move your product.

§       Managing the Process: Product demand forecasts, product testing procedures and identifying regulatory issues.

§       Inventory Management: Storage, warehousing and distribution issues and how to deal with product problems, e.g. perishable and short storage life products.

§       Managing Delivery: Processing of orders and steps to select transportation options, monitoring shipments and delivery.

§       Managing Intermediaries: Selection of the right professionals to help move goods and how to negotiate a transportation arrangement and choose the best insurance for your sale.

§       Problem Management: Problems arising from product deficiencies as perceived by the buyer.

§       Managing IT: Use of technological solutions for managing the sales process and its role in e-commerce.

§       Trade Documentation: Main types of documents encountered when selling products in international markets.  

§       Managing Risks: Risks that arise when selling goods internationally and measures to mitigate them.

§       Sector specific case studies and examples.

 

Date: Thursday, May 19, 2011         Time: 8:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.              Location: Delta Guelph Hotel and Conference Centre, 50 Stone Road West, Guelph, Ontario.

 

Please note that the pilot session is free of charge and that breakfast and lunch will be provided. CAHRC will also cover certain participant travel costs such as mileage and hotel accommodation, as per Treasury Board of Canada guidelines. Participants can submit their expenses to CAHRC following the training session, using the CAHRC travel claim form which will be distributed at the meeting. Participants requiring hotel accommodation must contact Christine Mercier, CAHRC Project Manager, at mercier@cahrc-ccrha.ca, or at 1-866-430-7457, ext. 225, prior to the training session.
